How to make Vegan Hot Chocolate Recipe?

Prepare Time: 15 Minutes

  • 12 oz. of hot cocoa powder, unsweetened ( I prefer the Nestle brand)
  • 8 oz. of vegan milk (I use vanilla almond milk)
  • 2 tsp. of organic molasses or organic honey (optional)

Step 1.

Bring 1/4 cup of water to a boil in a saucepan, then add the cocoa powder and stir until all the water is absorbed by the cocoa powder, occasionally mixing with a wooden spoon.

Step 2.

Add your milk and continue to stir until everything is mixed well.

Step 3.

Add a teaspoon of molasses or honey for a richer flavor, stir, and serve hot in cups or mugs.

  • Substitute milk with soy cream or coconut cream for a thicker consistency. This will give it a rich texture similar to ice cream but without unhealthy ingredients.
  • You can also add a teaspoon of vanilla extract or cinnamon. Either of these will make your drink extra flavorful.
  • If you like sweeter drinks, you can add more sugar to this recipe, but do keep in mind that vegan hot chocolate doesn’t need to be overly sweet. It’s already very rich in flavor and doesn’t need added sugar.

Personal Notes

My husband lied when he told me I couldn’t have chocolate because they say it’s terrible for the heart. He talked me into this drink, thinking I would have a hot chocolate. Surprisingly, he was right, and it tastes pretty fabulous. I can’t tell the difference between this drink and the normal one. The only different thing is the slight hint of spice from the cinnamon. My husband loves it because I don’t make him eat meat anymore.

You should use either almond milk or soy milk when making hot chocolate. The best vegan hot chocolate recipe is the one that you like the most, but I prefer unsweetened vanilla almond milk because it gives my drink a thicker consistency.
